»  Jennifer Hudson is negotiating to star in "Tyler Perry's the Family That Preys," a drama Perry wrote and will direct and star in for Lionsgate.Sanaa Lathan, Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard and Rockmond Dunbar are already set for the project, which begins shooting March 2 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Script focuses on two families from different sides of the tracks that become intimately involved in love and business. Pic is Perry's sixth for Lionsgate. He scored his last hit with "Why Did I Get Married?" and will follow "The Family That Preys" by directing "Madea Goes to Jail," based on his stage play. Lionsgate opens Perry's "Meet the Browns" on March 21. "The Family That Preys" will be Perry's first film with a prominent storyline involving white characters. Perry will produce with Reuben Cannon. »  Fox Searchlight is boarding "The Secret Life of Bees," distributing and overseeing the production of the big-screen adaptation of the Sue Monk Kidd best-seller. Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Sophie Okonedo will star.Searchlight also confirmed Wednesday that it is in final negotiations with Dakota Fanning and Alicia Keys to also star in the film, a female-oriented coming-of-age tale. » American Idol winner Carrie Underwood and American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson will join several other singers in performing on a new entertainment special called Movies Rock. Other performers include Beyoncé, Sir Elton John, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, John Williams, Marc Anthony, Mary J. Blige and Nelly. n addition to winning America Idol 4, Carrie Underwood won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Some Hearts, her debut album, has been certified six times platinum and is to date the fastest selling debut country album in history. Her second album, Carnival Ride, was recently released. In addition to being a finalist on American Idol 3, Jennifer Hudson won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA, a SAG Award and two BET Awards for her role as Effie White in the 2006 motion picture musical "Dreamgirls.” Movies Rock will celebrate the relationship between music and film. The show will be a two-hour live event and will take place at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. The live event will be taped on Sunday, December 2 and will be broadcast on Friday, December 7 from 9:00PM to 11:00PM ET/PT on CBS.
